Ta-Da! Look for this shiny new trophy in our window soon! Last night, at Wollongong Council’s Rise and Shine Environmental Awards night, Flame Tree Community Food-Co-op was awarded the Basil Ryan Environmental Award, the highest honour awarded at the ceremony. One of Flame Tree’s Directors, Jane Caldwell, accepted the award from the Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery OAM on behalf of all of us.

According to Wollongong Council, “Rise and Shine aims to increase civic pride, accelerate environmental improvement and increase quality of life for present and future generations. Rise and Shine is a campaign encouraging community participation in a range of activities to improve the environment that in turn will benefit the quality of life enjoyed by local residents. The Campaign commenced in 1986 ..”

Take a bow all of us who make this the multi-award-winning sustainable wonderful community success we are!

And congratulations also to all of the other award winners honoured last night (check Council’s website for a list of all award winners), including our neighbors at the Thirroul Community Garden and High Street Reserve Bush Care, who each won awards for participating in the Rise and Shine Spring Clean Up.
