Charity of the Quarter – Thirroul Community Garden

Thirroul Community Garden officially opened in September 2012. Currently members meet at working bees on Sunday mornings, and, while the days are long, mid-week late afternoons on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. In addition to building and maintaining a permaculture-based food garden, the group is working to restore the littoral zone along the section of Hewitts Creek that borders the garden. Thirroul Gardeners’ Bushcare group regularly meets on the first Sunday of each month (an exception is March, when the bushcare meeting will be 9:00-11:00 on Sunday March 17).

The gardeners are looking for new members.  If you’d like to learn more about the garden, email them at sign up for garden membership, visit the garden on Sunday mornings, or you can join at the Thirroul Neighborhood Centre. (check here for office hours). Some of our regular shop volunteers are garden members, and can help with questions and sign you up when they work at the store. Look for the “ask me about the garden” sign when you are next at the co-op.

From autumn, you can help support the garden by purchasing a plant ($5 or $10) from the selection in the co-op laneway. Proceeds from the plant sale and from donations will go towards purchasing plants and materials for the garden.
